Gauge doesn’t matter for this pattern. You want a reasonably thick yarn, anything sports weight or thicker will do. You need about an ounce of yarn and a crochet hook in a size appropriate for your yarn. Try for a fairly dense fabric.

Ch 3. Join in first chain with a slip stitch to form a loop.
Rnd. 1: 3 sc in loop.
Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around
Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around.
Rnd 4: * Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc. Repeat from * around.

Repeat rnds 3 and 4 until piece measures about 4 inches in diameter.

Repeat rnd 3 until piece curls over itself sufficiently. You can put it down to check it every few rows.

End off. Weave in ends.
